Slope Calculator

Use this tool to calculate the gradient of your slope.

This tool helps you to calculate how steep your driveway, sloped path or parking is based on two fixed points. For this you need to measure the change in elevation (the rise) and the horizontal distance (the run) between two fixed points.

If you're using IBRAN-X grids to reinforce your surfacing, the ideal slope is less than 25%.

Gradient (%):  0.00%
Gradient (°):  0.00°
Suitable for Grids

How to calculate the gradient of your slope

  1. Push a stake in at each of the top of your slope and the bottom of your slope.
  2. Tie a string between the two stakes.
  3. Use a spirit level to get the string flat/level with the bubble in the middle of the spirit level. The string should touch the ground at the top of the slope.
  4. Measure the distance between the stakes - "the run".
  5. Measure the height difference between the ground and where the string is tied to the stake pushed in at the bottom of the slope - "the rise"
  6. Use our calculator to get your gradient.

The formula for this is:

  • PERCENTAGE: (rise / run) x 100%
  • DEGREES: Tan-1(rise / run)
